The Californian Orange strain is a 50% Indica, 50% Sativa strain which is available from Dutch Passion alone. This is truly a classic strain which dates back to the 1980s and in the years since it has been inbred only rather than combined with other strains. The genetics come from, as you may have guessed, a Californian strain of a rather impressive quality giving it a strong yet social effect. The strain itself is strong and stable as well as producing a rich aroma and has a high level of resin production.
The strain is also feminised meaning that very few male plants will grow from the seeds. Many breeders feel that the only thing that male plants are good for is taking up valuable crop room causing them to plant twice as many seeds to produce the desired number of productive females. A waste of time and money in most modern breeder's opinions especially as not everyone has a large amount of accessible resources. As Dutch Passion were the first breeders to achieve a 95% female crop it is easy to trust them with the genetic alteration which can, on rare occasions, damage the quality of the strain. The only reason that anyone would really be interested in using regular seeds these days is for breeding. The easiest way to breed future crops is to use the male pollen; however it is no longer the only option. It is now possible to stress the female plants in such a way that they also produce this pollen and more often than not the results are far more impressive. It is however a rather tricky task to undertake and is not for the novice breeder.
This strain will usually grow to around 1.2 - 2 meters in height and will yield around 400 grams/m2, rather impressive indeed. Definitely a strain straight out of the hippy era Californian Orange will remain a Dutch Passion favourite for many years to come.
