Microdosing has been a popular way to get the benefits of certain drugs without losing control for decades. It is often used medicinally and tends to be most popular with psychedelics such as mushrooms. However, many people microdose THC and CBD to get all of the benefits with less of the buzz. Essentially, microdosing can help with a wide variety of issues from basic stress to chronic medical symptoms. If we are going to play around with microdosing it is important that we know what we are doing. The last thing we want is to accidentally trigger the psychoactive effects of THC when we don’t mean to. 

 

The Basics 

 

The point of microdosing is to take the smallest amount of cannabis possible while still feeling the therapeutic effects. Microdosing is popular with a variety of people from those who are simply not used to weed to those who have constant medicinal issues and need relief. It is also for those who struggle with traditional medicines or mental health drugs. Many anti-depressants or anti-anxiety meds can have negative side effects. It is extremely unlikely that a small dose of cannabis will have any similar effects or lasting issues. 

 

Microdosing was initially created for use with LSD and mushrooms to take the therapeutic aspects without causing hallucinations. Psychedelics are thought to have some fantastic effects on the brain when used in very small doses, they were used to treat clinical depression and were often used to boost creativity. Now it is believed that CBD and TCH can have similar effects. 

 

In fact, often cannabis is simply used in regular doses medicinally. The only issue there is that the effects are completely subjective and can be difficult to predict. In some THC can cause anxiety, paranoia, and a variety of other negative effects. A little THC can do wonders for someone who suffers from anxiety or depression, whereas a full dose can do the exact opposite. 

 

How To Microdose 

 

So as we have discussed the point here is not to experience any significant change in mood. If anything we are usually trying to remove symptoms rather than add them. Again as cannabis effects are subjective we can struggle to figure out dosing. There can be a world of difference in effects from strain to strain as well as from person to person. We also have to consider the ratio of CBD to THC in the strain as CBD can counteract some of the effects of THC. 

 

The first thing you need to do is to figure out your ideal dose. The standard THC dose is usually 10 mg so we want to look for anything that has less than 10mg or a low dose. There are quite a few low dose products available on the market. This just means they have around 1 – 5 mg of THC in them. It can be difficult to initially find the best product for you as we all differ so greatly in our reaction to cannabis. Most people would go for around 2.5mg as a good starter microdose. Then if you need to reduce or increase it is unlikely to have a negative effect the first time. Most specialists recommend taking one microdose and waiting 2 hours to feel an effect. From there you can figure out what to do next, but it is very important to take things slowly. 

 

How Do You Take It?

 

The ingestion of CBD or THC can be done in a number of ways. You can go for concentrates, edibles, smoking or vaping. This largely depends on why you’re microdosing, whether you normally smoke weed and if you are using it at home or on the go. 

 

Concentrates 

 

These usually come in the form of a CBD or THC liquid and use droppers to administer the microdose. The starting dose is usually two drops or 1mg, it is very unlikely that this will produce any kind of high even for those with a low tolerance. Even then some people say you should start with just one drop every day and then build up to two, just to be safe. Concentrates are a great one for anyone who is always on the go. After taking this small dose you should wait for anything up to an hour. If you start feeling any kind of high the dosage is too large for you and you need to reduce. Experts suggest that you continue to increase the dose by a drop every once in a while so that your body doesn’t completely get used to the calming effects. Again, just watch for any actual symptoms of being high and if you experience them reduce your dose again. 

 

Edibles

 

The best way to go for edibles is to buy them online so you know exactly how much THC is in them. A number of companies sell edibles specific for microdosing that have extremely low levels of CBD and THC. Edibles are popular amongst those who are on the move or prefer not to smoke. They work by releasing THC into your bloodstream. This means it takes up to an hour and a half for anything to happen. Just like with the concentrates watch out for any signs that you’re actually getting high. 

 

Smoking/Vaping 

 

Smoking and vaping microdosing use cannabis flowers rather than buds. They have far lower levels of THC and CBD so they can safely be smoked or vaped without inducing a high. Simply use in the same way that you would normal cannabis. Take a puff, hold it for a second, exhale, and wait about 10 minutes to see any calming or medicinal effects. If you are a regular smoker but just want the microdose effects be sure that you’re not tempted to draw too often or you may just get stoned. 

 

Whether you suffer from an illness like anxiety or depression or you’re just stressed microdosing can be a natural way to calm down the brain. Worth trying if you’ve already tried a bunch of other options that just don’t work.
