The Strains of the Week
Barney’s Farm LSD is a very aptly named, expertly engineered strain of indica cannabis. By crossing Skunk #1 with Mazar, Barney’s has achieved a variety of cannabis that has a singularly distinct trippy effect and packs a real, solid punch, especially for a dominant indica.
LSD is a particularly hardy strain that is extremely resistant to mould and fungus. It grows in all kinds of environments: outdoors, indoors, greenhouses, this plant just won’t quit. Best yet, it is a particularly good starter strain for novice growers looking for a cannabis plant that will require a minimum of maintenance with maximum yield.
The flavour of Barney’s LSD is very intense, immediately waking all the senses, and is described by many as earthy with overtones of chestnut. Its aroma is musky and rich and compliments the taste very nicely. As its name implies, the experience it offers is very deeply euphoric bordering on psychedelic.
This is a rather special strain which was imported from South Africa and was cultivated in Holland, already rather impressive. The strain has never been hybridised and is a 100% pure inbred plant, also 100% Sativa.
This strain is very popular for its light and energising up as well as its growing versatility. This is another strain by Dutch Passion which is extremely easy to grow although it can be confusing because as it grows it resembles an Indica far more than a Sativa.
At a certain stage however, about 8-9 weeks in, it grows noticeable compact buds which are full of THC.As if it wasn’t already extremely easy to grow, the strain is also feminised. This is a simple genetic alteration chosen by the breeders in an attempt to ensure that the seeds will grow into female plants.
While other growers rushed to produce more and more complex strains Royal Queen Seeds decided to develop a strain that is reliable and perfect for growers who are just starting out, and so Special Queen #1 was born.
It is easy to grow in both hydro and soil set-ups and therefore is a great competitor for commercial crops. Queen #1 is a cross between Power Bud and Skunk resulting in a 50/50 Indica, Sativa split and so combines the best of both and has a THC content of 14%.
Although it prefers sunny climates it can also grow in more northern countries such as in the Netherlands or the UK and has a short flowering time of 7 weeks. Indoors it will grow to roughly 1.5 metres in height and will produce a yield of 500-550 gr m2 under a 600 W light, outdoors it can grow to over 3 metres and result in 500-550 grams per plant dried.
For the longest time growers have been desperate for a fast and easy to grow Haze strain. This particular strain is as closes as we are currently going to get and it’s pretty damn impressive.
Most auto flowering strains are Indica dominant but this particular strain has extremely Sativa-esque qualities. This is an express auto strain and will only take around 11 – 12 weeks to grow.
It isn’t the tallest strain but it gives amazing yields and is ideal for commercial use. Phoenix knows that growers and breeders have been desperate for a Haze strain that doesn’t require the normal growing effort, this strain is ideal for them.
As well as being an express auto strain this form of Haze is feminised. This only increases its yield due to the fact that there will be no useless male plants in the crop.
Original Skunk Express Auto is an upgraded version of the original Skunk, one of the oldest strains around. It originally came out in the 70s and was released in Holland.
This strain took off straight away and became extremely popular. The effect is happy and uplifting but extremely potent and long lasting. The genetic background consists of Columbian Gold, Afghani and Acapulco Gold.
This strain has a short flowering period and produces amazing yields. Skunk has a pretty impressive scent and will need a good amount of ventilation, definitely not great for sneaky outdoor growing.
This strain is both auto-flowering and feminised, ideal for growers. Auto-flowering plants will flower automatically rather than as the result of a light cycle
