The Orkney Isles are some of the most beautiful places you can visit in Scotland. Whether you enjoy Neolithic history, stunning rolling countryside, fascinating wildlife or swimming in a sea that is freezing almost 100% of the time. Obviously, all of those things could be massively improved by being high. There is nothing better than getting stoned and tottering down to the beach to laugh at seals. If you get a beautiful sunny day then getting stoned and going for a long walk over the hills is a fantastic call. Or you can dance naked around the standing stones at the Ring of Brodgar to pay homage to the Goddess or whatever. It’s mostly just a great excuse to be stoned and naked outdoors. I mean if you are going to the Broch of Bursay and up to the cliff maybe don’t go overboard. Especially as the tide may come up before you realise, submerging the stone bridge and leaving you completely stranded. Anyway, these are definitely the very best strains you could smoke whilst spending time in the Orkney Isles.
Green Crack is an absolute classic when you need a little extra pep in your step. This strain is a hard core Sativa that is both stimulating and cerebral. So she won’t just give you the energy you need to go on a lovely big walk she will also improve the way you take in your surroundings. If you thought the views were already spectacular then just you hang on a minute. She was created by combining Afghani and Skunk. If you want to have a full day out then make a night of it in one of the pubs of Kirkwall or Stromness then there is no better strain on the market. The THC level of this strain is a pretty impressive 19 – 20% so for those who aren’t super used to smoking she might be a bit heavy to go hard on. Green Crack has a flowering time of 58 – 65 days and can be grown indoors or outdoors.
Pineapple Express is another uplifting strain that makes users happy, uplifted, and euphoric which could be perfect for camping somewhere, maybe near a beach. You will likely recognise this strain from the relatively popular film with Seth Rogan. Though the strain is not quite the tour de force they make it seem in the film, it is pretty powerful so smokers would be wise to be wary. You’re unlikely to feel a greater sense of Euphoria than you would watching the sunset stoned on Evie beach, maybe a seal pops up, you make eye contact, you soul bond, y’know Orkney stuff. Pineapple Express has a wonderful combination of flavours and scents including fresh fruit and spices. She has a flowering time of 9 weeks and can be grown indoors or outdoors.
Many outdoorsy types swear by Maui Wowie when it comes to something that will really connect you with nature. Yes this is another happy and uplifting strain but it comes with an incredible sense of cerebral bliss. Standing on the cliffs of Bursay staring out at the sea, maybe hearing the calls of puffins and seagulls, smelling the fish and the salt, probably a pretty fantastic feeling when your brain is all full of lovely happy chemicals. Maui Wowie is also a great medicinal strain that is popular with those suffering from depression, chronic stress or pain. The primary reason that I recommend this particular strain for cliff standing is that it has a low THC level of just 10%. This strain won’t get you completely ruined but it will but a beautiful lense over everything around you. She has a flowering time of 9 – 11 weeks and can be grown indoors or outdoors.
This strain is particularly apt as you can smoke Northern Lights to go and watch the Northern Lights. On a clear night in Orkney you can sometimes see the greens and blues of the Northern Lights dancing across the night sky over the standing stones. Obviously this would already be an incredible sight to behold, but once you have a little of this strain in you it will be other worldly. Northern Lights is a classic strain that provides a full body relaxation with a delightfully uplifting cerebral effect. This strain has won more cups than you can shake a stick at, and for very good reason. She first came onto the market in the 1970s and hasn’t changed since, except for when she’s used as the base for one of the many other amazing strains she birthed. Northern Lights has a flowering time of 9 – 10 weeks and can be grown indoors or outdoors.
One thing you’ll notice about Orkney is the weather. Since the island is completely flat you can see and experience a wide variety of weather systems over a short space of time. This also means that you might be an hour away from where you are staying on a hike and suddenly get hit with a wall of rain or icey sleet. When you eventually get back to your lodgings you’ll need a little help getting all warm and cozy. Master Kush is a comforting yet active strain with a warm and relaxing full body effect. Many have said that this strain is amazing if you want to get in, make some food, and snuggle up on the couch with your friends or partner or whatever. Master Kush is also a cup winner, it took the High Times Cannabis Cup in 2004. The THC level is usually anywhere between 15 – 18%, so quite a wide margin. Maybe just take it easy initially and see how you go if you want to remain mobile. Master Kush has a flowering time of 8 – 9 weeks and can be grown indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.
