Best Strains for Movie Night

 

One of the most popular stoner pastimes is film. It doesn’t require a lot of energy and allows the brain to escape while the body relaxes. Of course, there is a whole genre of film specifically for stoners but these fantastic strains will improve watching almost anything. Sativa strains are usually ideal for most styles of film as they are uplifting, happy and focused. Whether it’s a film night with friends or just cuddling up in bed with an old favourite, there is a strain that will improve the overall feel of the film night.

 

Guava 

 

This strain is ideal for enjoying comedy with its happy, uplifting, energetic, euphoric yet relaxing effect. Guava is a well balanced Sativa dominant strain that goes perfectly with a social evening watching comedy or stoner films. She also has a habit of kicking off the munchies, so ideal for getting take out to go with the movie. The THC level usually sits at around 21% and causes a powerful cerebral euphoria that makes everything seem distinctly groovy. This strain is also perfect for medicinal users suffering from depression, anxiety, insomnia, loss of appetite, pain, stress, multiple sclerosis, or Parkinson’s. Guava also works well with more intense films as it doesn’t tend to bring on any extra anxiety in the stone. She is an extremely impressive strain that produces yields of up to 450 g/m2 indoors and up to 550 g/plant outdoors. She has a short flowering time of 56 – 63 days and grows well indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.

 

Wedding Cake 

 

Wedding Cake is famous for its uplifting and motivational effects, making it a fantastic day time medicinal strain as well as an excellent recreational strain. Despite being an excitable strain she is also relaxing and comfortable, making her perfect for movie night. The only possible downside with this lady is her 25% THC level. For some, this is a pro, but for less experienced smokers she could be a little overwhelming. She is often recommended to medicinal users who suffer from depression, insomnia, lack of appetite, main, rheumatism, migraines or stress. Wedding Cake can engage the creative brain so she is great for slightly more complicated films. This strain was created by combining Girl Scout Cookies and Cherry Pie. She has a flowering time of 50 – 55 days and can be grown indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.

 

Bella Donna

 

This dangerous sounding lady is ideal for film watching due to her energetic but understated high. She’s not an ideal medicinal strain but she is one of the most popular recreational strains on the planet. Her high is not just happy, uplifting and excitable but it has a hallucinogenic side to is that can be ideal for certain types of cinema. I maybe wouldn’t recommend watching Natural Born Killers or A Scanner Darkly but it can certainly be a welcome addition to a visually beautiful film. She is also focused in her high so she isn’t just for stoner comedies. She is easy to grow as she is capable of growing anywhere. She is very resistant to mould and disease, making her a good choice for new growers. Her THC level is 16 – 20% so she isn’t too powerful but still deserves some reverence from beginner smokers. She has a flowering time of 9 weeks and can be grown indoors or outdoors.

 

Laughing Buddha

 

This awesome combination of Thai and Jamaican genetics came into existence in 2003 and immediately took the cannabis world by storm. That first year she won 3rd prize at the High Times Cannabis Cup. She is Sativa dominant, as her name might suggest, and has a deliciously fruity scent and flavour. The high is energetic and uplifting, again perfect for watching movies with friends. Despite the powerful happiness of the strain, it starts slowly and calmly, just naturally letting the brain let go of all stress and anxiety. The buzz then gets ridiculously happy, great for comedies or feel-good films if we want to just overload on good vibes. The THC content usually sits at around 22% and the CBD can get as high as 5%. This means she is also a wonderful strain for anyone who is seriously suffering from depression, stress or anxiety. She has a flowering time of 70 – 75 days and grows best indoors or in a greenhouse.

 

Maple Leaf Indica 

 

This is our first Indica heavy strain on the list since normally they wouldn’t be the best strains for film night. However, this strain has a powerfully relaxing and slightly brain melty effect that is good for a few reasons. Some may want to use this to watch a relaxed film like maybe something by Wes Anderson, or slightly braver viewers may want to use her for something a little spookier. I think she’s a great horror film strain as she adds an extra dimension of brain fear to the proceedings. Although we don’t want to go overboard on Maple Leaf or we may not make it to the end of the film as she can be a powerful sedative. She was created from rare Afghani stock that very nearly didn’t make it into the western world, so we should count ourselves very lucky. She has an amazingly short flowering time of 6 – 7 weeks and grows best indoors.

 

Brains Damage

 

Let’s finish with a classic for stoned movie night, probably one of the giggliest strains on the market. Her flavours and scents are strong, fruity and hashy which just improves her smoke. The effect is extremely uplifting and will make pretty much any film seem like a comedy. Personally, I think this is a fantastic one for 80s comedy classics such as Police Academy, Hot Shots, Naked Gun, basically anything with a good amount of farcical nonsense. She is also a grower’s dream with her consistent genetics and phenomenal yields. She can be grown in pretty much any climate and is resistant to mould and fungus. She has a flowering time of 8 – 10 weeks and can be grown indoors or outdoors.
