The 20th of April is just around the corner and it’s time to celebrate cannabis in all of its glory. Knowing what to smoke on this auspicious occasion isn’t easy, so I’ve put together a list of some of the best-loved classics and all-time favourites from all over the world. Whether you can see friends and family, are celebrating over Zoom call or you’re just hanging out on your own these are by far the finest strains to enjoy a beautiful spring afternoon.

Green Crack

Green Crack is always a fan favourite, with her uplifting and energetic high that is perfect for a celebration. This strain’s effect is cerebral and stimulating, great for chatting, laughing, going for a lovely big walk in the sun or even doing a little spring cleaning. It also has a deliciously citrusy flavour that makes it is ideal for a bright spring afternoon. This strain is often used by those who are suffering from depression, anxiety and other mental health issues. It is especially good for those who are lacking in motivation and struggling to get up and get things done. This is why it is also great for anyone who still has things to get done on the 20th of April. This strain has a flowering time of 58 – 65 days and will grow well indoors or outdoors.

Zkittles

Another happy, uplifting and talkative strain that is perfect for socialising or again going out for a lovely walk. She is an ideal daytime strain and again is great for anyone who struggles with depression, anxiety or severe stress. This is for anyone who considers 4/20 a public holiday and just wants to take a little bit of time off. The THC level of this strain is usually 20% and up, but the high is so light and bouncy most of us will avoid any unpleasantly soporific side effects. This strain is also deliciously bright and fruity which adds a little extra fun to the smoke. She has a flowering time of 9 weeks and can be grown indoors or outdoors.

Power Plant

Power Plant has a similar but very different vibe to the previous 2. She is uplifting and happy but very relaxed and euphoric. This is a good solo strain for just jamming out in the house with some yummy snacks and your favourite film. It’s also great for small groups or pairs that are comfortable not having constant and exciting conversation. Funnily enough, she is also recommended for battling pain, stress and depression. The THC levels are very reasonable at 15 – 20%, so great for those who don’t want anything completely overpowered. She does have a creative and sociable flavour to her so may also be good for anyone who feels like getting a group art project underway in celebration of 4/20. She has a flowering time of 8 weeks and will grow well indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.

Flowerbomb Kush

Flowerbomb Kush is basically what you might expect from the name. A beautifully scented and delightfully giggly plant that is happy and creative but very chill. The scent is definitely one of the most impressive aspects of this plant. It is a combination of rose, orange and spices with other warm herbal undertones. Of course, along with that comes the unmistakable scent of Kush that just adds that super dank aroma. The high is creative in a way that just allows the mind to open up and zoom about the place, while also causing it to find pretty much everything hilarious. This is a perfect social strain to enjoy with a group or just one or two close friends. However, once the effect stretches its legs you can feel the Indica dominance. It becomes far more meditative and relaxed leading slowly into a soft sleepiness. Flowerbomb Kush grows into a beautiful and dense plant that starts to give off the gorgeous aroma’s when she begins to mature. She can be grown equally easily indoors or outdoors.

Grandaddy Purple

A classic strain that most die-hard stoners will already be aware of. Grandaddy Purple is a cross between Purple Urkle and Big Bud, two extremely popular strains. The result is a high yielding and extremely relaxing plant that is great for evening use. After an evening of celebrating 4/20, this is the best strain to send you off to dreamland. She is often used by those who suffer from nausea, pain, insomnia, or anxiety. The THC level is usually 25 – 35% so she is one of the more powerful strains on the market. Treat yourself to what basically feels like having a warm bath, a massage, and a cup of camomile tea all at once. Ideal for anyone who has had a stressful day at work or just in general. Grandaddy Purple will grow extremely well both indoors and outdoors. Her flowering time is usually around 60 – 65 days.

Gelato

Finally, we will bring in a strain that is soft, fuzzy but still has a bit of energy to it. Though it is extremely strong and relaxing, it is also extremely stimulating. Gelato is a good strain for anyone who wants to have a bit of a late night, maybe with company or maybe not. Her THC level usually sits at around 24% so she isn’t one for the faint of heart. She’s great for heavier users and anyone who wants a classic chill vibe without the soporific and sedative aspects. She is also genuinely delicious with her cookie flavouring and mouth-wateringly sweet scent. Gelato is a balanced cross between Sativa and Indica which is what gives her the interesting effect. She also produces extremely dense buds that are covered in a thick layer of sticky resin. Overall, I have to say I think she is likely my favourite strain for celebrating 4/20. She has a flowering time of just 56 days and can be grown indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.
