Best Strains For Borderline Personality Disorder

Cannabis is used to treat a wide variety of physical and mental health issues. Throughout the years we have been learning more and more about what weed can do for us. In countries where medicinal cannabis is legal it has been successfully used to deal with several issues that were previously extremely difficult to treat. Physically this usually refers to chronic inflammation and pain, but mentally it refers to a vast spectrum of issues. Today I’d like to talk about one of my own diagnoses, Borderline Personality Disorder. This is a mental health issue that affects 7/1000 people in the UK. The ways in which it manifests are extremely varied but these are the 4 basic areas as laid out by the NHS.

  • Emotional instability otherwise known as “affective dysregulation”.
  • Impulsive behaviour
  • Intense and unstable relationships with others.
  • Disturbed patterns of thinking and perception known as “cognitive distortions” and “perceptual distortions”.

Each of these will be broken down into subcategories and each diagnosed person will experience it differently. This is why it can be so difficult to treat. After my diagnosis I was told that in order to figure out the best course of treatment I would need to attend several intensive therapy sessions. Without understanding exactly how BPD affects you and your life medication can be dangerous. This is why cannabis is so often used for mood disorders and can make day to day life as well as intense episodes easier for sufferers. These are some of the best strains for reducing the symptoms of BPD, especially useful if you’re like me and you’re just waiting around to be told what to do next.

707 Headband

One of the most severe issues that can come with Borderline Personality Disorder is severe depression. This can be coupled with suicidal thoughts and depressive mania which can make things extremely difficult. This strain has an intense, long-lasting and relaxing effect which is often used to treat depression, pain, stress, loss of appetite, and insomnia. This strain is quite strong with a THC level of 22 – 23%. It is an Indica/Sativa balance which means it can be fantastic for dealing with the manic depressive episodes where full despair sets in. This strain is most famous for being super for high tolerance users. No matter how heavily you smoke this strain will always hit you just right. 707 Headband has a flowering time of 8 – 9 weeks and should be grown indoors.

Cannatonic

This strain is likely to come up in most medicinal articles due to its many uses. This is especially good for mood disorders as the THC level is the same as the CBD levels. Both sit at around 5 – 7% so Cannatonic isn’t too psychoactive. Medicinally it is usually prescribed to those suffering from inflammation, spasms, nausea, or spasticity. So this strain is predominantly used for physical issues, but there are a number of physical aspects to BPD. It can be easy to lose your appetite, experience nausea, tight muscles and subsequent muscle pain. There are a lot of things that we don’t necessarily think about until it’s making getting out of bed or out of the house extremely difficult. Cannatonic has a flowering time of 9 – 10 weeks and can be grown indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.

Northern Lights

This is another extremely famous medicinal strain that is powerful and relaxing. Relaxation can be almost impossible with most mood disorders. This is why we are more prone to substance abuse issues in order to find fake calm. Cannabis, unlike alcohol or other drugs, doesn’t just temporarily change your brain chemistry but alters your hormones and can help your body to relax naturally. Episodes of mania, rage, panic and other unstable emotions can be extremely difficult to deal with. Especially if it hits you at night and you just decide that you never have to sleep ever again. Northern Lights is also soporific so it can help you get to sleep if you are struggling with mania related insomnia. Northern Lights has a THC level of 18% so it is pretty powerful. This strain has a flowering time of 7 – 8 weeks and can be grown indoors or outdoors.

Pumpkin Kush

This strain is for those days where you literally cannot get out of bed. Where motivation is a distant memory and everything seems so utterly pointless that punishing your body by making it move seems crazy. Do you have to work? Do you need to clean? Do you need to do the shopping? Yes of course, but are you going to? No, obviously not. Pumpkin Kush is the perfect strain for instilling a feeling of get up and go. It is uplifting, happy, motivating, physical, euphoric and oddly relaxing. Sometimes with BPD emotions can be so completely overwhelming that you don’t stand a chance against them on your own. This strain is sweetly delicious and will give you all the motivation and focus you need to just get through the day. It has a THC level of 20% so it can be pretty powerful. If you have a lot on, probably don’t smoke too much. Pumpkin Kush has a flowering time of 56 – 63 days and will grow well indoors or outdoors.

Strawberry Cough

This final strain is just for those days where every emotion is hitting you at once. Where you can’t think straight, you’re paranoid, you’re remembering things wrong, and you just need the tiniest break from your brain. Strawberry Cough is a euphoric and uplifting strain which is still extremely relaxing. If you have a day off but your brain hasn’t realised then smoke some Strawberry Cough, get a good book, set up your favourite TV show, gather your blankets and put on your comfiest jammies. Sometimes all you can do is just try to reduce a little of the stress your brain is going through, especially if you are pre-treatment. Strawberry Cough has a flowering time of 9 weeks and can be grown indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.
