Grinders are an important part of a smoker’s kit and which one is the best for the individual depends on a number of factors. Whether a smoker prefers joints, bongs or vaporisers may alter the best grinder for them. Different grinders provide different services and have varied aspects to them including materials, the number of chambers, type of grind, technological advancement.  Many use small scissors or their fingers to break up their cannabis, but this is not necessarily the most effective way to powder your buds. We need to consider what we want from out grinder in order to decide which is best for us.

 

What Is A Grinder?

 

A grinder is a little piece of machinery that quite literally grinds cannabis into a powder. This makes the smoke smoother and makes the bud last longer.

 

Types

 

These grinders come in a few varieties such as 2-piece, 3-piece and 4-piece. The first simply has one compartment for grinding and storing cannabis. The second has two compartments, one for grinding and one for the cannabis. The final has three compartments, one of which has a screen and stores the kief, the others are the grinder and the storage. Most beginner smokers won’t have any need for a 4 piece grinder and will likely be perfectly happy with a 2 or 3 piece. However, experienced smokers may want to gather the kief separately from cannabis.

We can then look into the material the grinder is made of. The cheapest versions are usually plastic. They are great for quick use or use by beginners, they are lightweight but breakable and often do not give a particularly close grind. Next, we have wooden grinders which can be very beautiful and unique but again don’t necessarily last very long. Aluminium is used for the cheapest metal grinders but they are easy to use, they last well and they give a good grind, they can be a touch heavier. Finally, the fanciest grinders are usually made out of titanium, they are lightweight, easy to use, often very aesthetically pleasing and long-lasting.

Anyone who wants something seriously posh can go for an electric grinder. These are fully automated and will grind then dispense the weed beautifully evenly. These are usually used by medicinal users who struggle with hand pain.

 

Grinder Teeth

 

The teeth are by far the most important aspect of the grinder as they do the actual grinding bit. If the grinder is cheap and light that’s great, but if it doesn’t have good teeth it may be wasted money. Essentially we want the most teeth possible in the grinder. The more teeth the finer the grind which is really what we are looking for. Diamond-shaped teeth are also usually better than pyramid teeth as they interlock better rather than just rubbing the weed lumps together once they reach a certain size.
