As adults that have to exist generally in the current version of the world, we are going to be stressed. The news is a constant harbinger of doom, working has become more complicated or unavailable, there’s a rampant killer virus on the loose. Basically, it’s a hard time for everyone, and stress can be deadly. Stress is not simply a feeling but can manifest physically in the human body if we don’t take steps to combat it. Stress can lead to hair loss, premature ageing, weight gain, insomnia, skin problems, all sorts of things that we probably don’t want to add to our list of worries. Luckily, once again, cannabis can come to the rescue. There are numerous strains specifically designed to reduce stress and improve overall brain health.

Sour Tsunami

This strain has several medicinal uses, it helps with the symptoms of epilepsy, pain, seizures, depression and stress. This is partly due to it having a 1:1 THC to CBD ratio. The CBD is usually 5%+ and the THC level can be as low as 1%. The perfect strain for anyone who needs help chilling out but still wants to keep their wits about them. Sour Tsunami makes a great daytime strain to help users get through the day calmly. The scent and flavour of the strain are a mix of citrus and diesel. The effect is uplifting, soft and happy melting away all the stress and worry of the world. This strain has a flowering time of 8 – 9 weeks and can be grown indoors or outdoors.

Bubba Kush

Bubba Kush is a fantastic Indica strain that is soporific, sedate, relaxing and comfortable with smooth sleepiness that helps users settle before bed. Interestingly this strain is best known for reducing over-thinking, which personally I find to be the most damaging aspect of stress. One thing that is guaranteed to increase stress is a lack of sleep. A good nights rest is vital for anyone who’s trying to become a little more zen. The effect also relaxes the muscles as well as the mind, a great strain to have with a hot bath or a little spa night. The THC level on this strain is a little higher, at around 18.7% it can be strong for beginner smokers. Bubba Kush is also an award winner and won 3rd Peoples Choice Flowers 2015 High Times Cannabis Cup Denver. This strain has a flowering time of 9 weeks and can be grown indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.

Strawberry Cough

This strain is an excellent anti-depressant strain that is uplifting, happy and euphoric. Guaranteed to distract the brain from all the anxiety and stresses it’s experiencing. It is also a top-quality plant with dense buds covered in a thick layer of THC. Usually, it will have a THC level of around 10 – 15%, so not too strong for daytime use. The plant itself is also uniquely beautiful with its dark red and purple hues that only accentuate the bright sparkling resin. The scent and flavour are fruity and sweet which just tops off the luxurious feel of Strawberry Cough. This is a great strain to use before going for a walk or maybe doing a little bit of yoga. It is also ideal for getting stressful chores done around the house. This strain will flower in just 9 weeks and can be grown indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.

Girl Scout Cookies

GSC is well known for its powerful, full-body high that releases tension and stress throughout the body. This strain is actually used for a wide variety of medical issues such as epilepsy, arthritis, migraines, glaucoma, nausea, PMS, multiple sclerosis and stress. This is also a perfect strain for those of us who find social interaction stressful, even with close friends. This is a chatty, happy and uplifting strain that breaks down barriers. Not only does it have a great effect but it smells and tastes deliciously minty and chocolatey. Girl Scout Cookies is definitely a perfect treat strain and is ideal for the end of a long day. The THC level is usually around 22% so maybe quite strong for new smokers but is ideal for veterans. The yields of this plant can also reach and impressive 500 – 650 g/m2. It can be grown indoors or outdoors and has a flowering time of just 8 – 9 weeks.

Afghani

Afghani has almost no rivals and is one of the OG strains. The effect is a deep and penetrating feeling of relaxation and euphoria that infects every fibre of the body. The strain for even the most stressed out and highly strung humans. Even if one has spent all day working, dealing with children or family, dealing with finances, debt, and who knows what else this strain will allow for some much-needed downtime. This fully Indica strain has been the base for a number of the best anti-stress and anxiety strains on the market. It has extremely dense buds that are dripping with resin, which makes it perfect for extraction. This strain is also extremely versatile and easy to grow, making it ideal for a variety of growers and breeders. The flavour and scent of the strain are that of the ultimate Indica, just another aspect of its relaxation properties. The THC level usually sits between 15 – 20% and can be a heavy sedative if overused. This also means it is a great night time strain for anyone who is struggling with sleep issues. New smokers should be wary as this strain can cause mild paranoia when used in excess. This strain has an extremely short flowering time of just 6 – 7 weeks, so growers should be able to manage two crops per season. As I said this strain is versatile so will grow well indoors or outdoors.

Relaxation certainly isn’t easy to achieve at the moment, even without the extraordinary circumstances that we all exist in currently. Just take a breath, have a toke and chill out for a bit. You deserve it.
