This may seem like a curious title as surely getting high and trying to work out would be counter-intuitive. However, there are several strains that are perfect for focus, motivation and relaxation which can make working out a lot easier. The strain you choose depends on the type of exercise you’re planning on doing. Of course for yoga, especially restoration yoga, quite a few strains are going to cut the mustard. When it comes to going for a walk or a run, maybe doing a little at-home HIIT work out, we may have to be more selective. Luckily there is a wide range of strains perfect for almost all types of exercise.

 

Super Lemon Haze

 

This 70% Sativa strain is a legend in the cannabis community. This strain has won a number of awards and is well-loved for its amazing yields and fantastic effect. She is both relaxing and uplifting with a motivational twist that makes it perfect for exercise. I don’t know about anyone else but the main thing that stops me from working out is just not getting started. This is the perfect strain to get the brain ready for and excited about exercise. The THC level is usually around 18 – 19% so not a lot needs to be smoked for the desired effect. She also has an appetite-stimulating effect which is perfect for having a healthy post-workout snack. The flavour a mix of sweet fruit and citrus with a light and delicious scent to match. Super Lemon Haze has a flowering time of 65 – 70 days and can be grown indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.

 

Lavender

This is the perfect yoga or tai chi strain because it is focused, relaxing and comfortable. This isn’t a great strain for a high energy yoga class, but for something a little more relaxed and centred she is perfect. There is nothing that will ease a stressed mind and body like combining this with a slow flow or restoration practice. This strain Is often used as a medicinal strain for those who are suffering from anxiety, stress or insomnia. The effect is also extremely long-lasting so should keep you going for an entire practice. This strain is not only great for centring the mind and body but is a really beautiful plant to have around. As the plant flowers, it turns golden orange with a hint of amber that sparkles as the resin comes in. It has a very herbal and floral scent and flavour, a mixture of rosemary, lavender and mint. She has a flowering time of 63 – 70 days and can be grown indoors and outdoors.

 

Green Crack

 

It is essentially impossible to talk about motivational strains without mentioning Green Crack. This is one of the most energising and motivating strains on the market. It also provides laser focus which makes it a fantastic strain for more energetic forms of exercise. Despite it being so uplifting and cerebral it very rarely induces any feelings of anxiety or paranoia. This is a perfect strain for doing some cardio. Maybe going for a run or doing a HIIT or pilates work out at home. Green Crack will keep motivation sky high for the entire work out whilst allowing the brain to feel aware and awake. This strain can reach around 20% THC, so anyone who is not used to smoking with exercise should be a little wary. The scent and flavour and powerfully citric with a sweet back that makes the mouth water. This strain has a flowering time of 58 – 65 days and can be grown indoors or outdoors.

 

Great White Shark

 

This strain often comes recommended for anyone who is a bit of a gym bunny. It has a powerful, long-lasting and relaxing effect that loosens the muscles and helps them to recover from extensive gym sessions. This is another one that is perfect for stretching or soft yoga flows. In very small doses it can still be great for the workout itself, but smoking too much will make doing anything very active a bit tricky. If it’s possible, this is a great strain for having a post work out massage. It allows the muscles to completely relax, which significantly aids in recovery before another workout session. It may even be a good idea to have a bath with a muscle soak if you’ve been going particularly hard. Great White Shark has won a couple of awards and is often used by those who suffer from chronic pain. It has a flowering time of 9 weeks and can be grown indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.

 

Jack Herer

 

This famous strain is well known for being extremely uplifting, happy and even euphoric. Jack Herer motivates in the most excitable possible way, making exercise not only easy but fun. This is the perfect strain for doing something fun and movement heavy like a body balance class or some aerobics. It can also even just improve going for a run on a sunny day or maybe doing a dance-based class. This strain has won countless awards and was named for the famous cannabis activist and author of the Emperor Wears No Clothes, Jack Herer. Its THC levels will usually reach up to 20% so it can be a little intense for some smokers. She can be smoked happily in small doses or in a larger dose for a post work out treat. I would also recommend using Jack Herer to try out a new form of exercise you weren’t sure about. It is guaranteed to put a positive spin on any experience, making it easier to break that anxiety seal. This strain has a flowering time of just 6 – 7 weeks and can be grown indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.

 

Of course, when using any of these strains with exercise be extremely careful. I do not recommend smoking before any exercise that involves heavy weights or other possibly harmful aspects. Always smoke responsibly and have fun!
