4 Countries throughout The World Where You Definitely Don’t Want to be caught with Cannabis

Amsterdam is probably the most popular place in the world where smokers can come together to enjoy their favorite buds. You can smoke away to your heart’s content and as long as you stay within the designated coffee shops and don’t cause a scene you won’t get in trouble.

Other countries are beginning to follow suit and even though they might not hit the same heights as the cannabis smokers’ paradise which Amsterdam has become, they might eventually get close.

Some parts of the world are becoming more relaxed when it comes to dealing with cannabis and the trend is going to continue, but that doesn’t mean you can light up anywhere unless you’re prepared to pay the ultimate price.

Some countries have very strict drug laws and they enforce them severely, so if you can’t go a day without smoking a joint you should stay away from them. Let’s look at some of those countries and the penalties you might face if you get caught with cannabis…

Thailand

I’m going to start with Thailand since it seems to be the most popular destination for people to unwind with a nice joint after a stressful day relaxing on the beach.

You can definitely get away with smoking cannabis in Thailand on the islands or up in the mountains, but if you get caught you will end up in big trouble. Luckily Thailand is the only place on the list where you’re least likely to end up in jail, but that is only because you’ll be able to buy your way out of trouble.

If you can’t afford to pay off the police you will end up in jail. They will even try to entrap you by going undercover in certain locations like the Full Moon Party, on the island of Koh Phangan. Buy cannabis from an undercover police officer and you’ll spend at least a night in the cells.

South Korea

South Korea makes the list because you won’t just get in trouble if someone catches you with cannabis in your pocket.

The police will carry out random drug tests and if you’re found with THC in your hair or urine you will end up in jail before you know what is going on. Nobody is going to stop you on the street unless you look like you’re stoned out of your mind, but the police have been known to test random people coming out of clubs and bars.

It doesn’t even matter if you smoked something before you arrived in the country, so if you do ever plan on visiting South Korea you will need to wait until it’s completely out of your system.

Can you imagine smoking cannabis in Amsterdam (where it’s completely legal) then getting on a flight to South Korea only to end up spending a year in jail along with paying massive fines? Ouch!

The United Arab Emirates

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to know you shouldn’t go anywhere near cannabis while you’re in the United Arab Emirates. They’ll throw you in jail for having sex with your long-term partner out of wedlock, so imagine what they’d do to you if they found a few grams of weed in your pocket.

You’ve probably heard the story about the guy who was sent to jail because they found poppy seeds on his jumper when he arrived in the country. Those poppy seeds came from a bread roll he ate at the airport while in London, but he was banged up anyway.

They will kill you if you try to sell anything, but even just possession results in a lengthy prison sentence in a jail where you won’t be treated kindly.

Singapore

Singapore is a huge transport hub, so if you plan on flying long distances you might end up spending a day or two there. I wouldn’t advise you to spend those few days looking for something to smoke.

They say Singapore is one of the most amazing places in the world to visit, but since it’s so small you will only want to spend a few days there or a week at the most.

Get caught in possession of cannabis and you’ll spend the next decade there. Accidentally take drugs into the country and you might never come home if you know what I mean.

Stick to smoking in a locale where it is safe to do so

If it’s legal to smoke where you live I’d suggest enjoying it there and refraining from taking your habit on the road with you. Asian and Middle-Eastern countries dish out the worst penalties, but you can still get in trouble nearly everywhere else in the world.

Put simply, it really pays to stay away from cannabis if you set off on any adventures to countries with strict anti-drug laws…

On the other hand, even if smoking where you live isn’t legal, it might be possible to legally buy and store Marijuana Seeds for posterity (For example, this practice is 100% legal in the UK!): If so, you’ll always know that at least your collection is one thing that won’t land you in trouble!
