CBD or Cannabidiol is the second most common cannabinoid found in cannabis plants. Unlike THC, CBD isn’t psychoactive which means it won’t make you feel stoned or high but, just like any other cannabinoid, it does have a lot of medicinal effects which may include:

Creation of high CBD cannabis strains
Just as the market wanted the highest percentage of THC in its strains, the need for CBD created numerous new strains with different ratios of CBD:THC, some with significant levels of other cannabinoids as well.
Dozens of new strains like Charlotte’s Web, Cannatonic and Harlequin that started the CBD revolution were created and many CBD variations of older and popular strains soon followed. Many breeders and cannabis seed banks now offer high CBD strains with a wide range of ratios and levels of cannabinoids with specific terpene profiles both as autoflowering and photoperiod cannabis strains.
Breeding CBD back into cannabis genetics wasn’t an easy task and many CBD strains still produce plants that will have (very) different CBD:THC ratios. A lot of CBD strains were made by crossing regular THC plants with hemp and many can even pass for hemp under current legislation and regulations. But, keep in mind that some variations due to different phenotypes may occur and you may have plants with significantly higher levels of THC as well as CBD.
Regulations allow for hemp to have 0.2% THC in EU and 0.3% THC in US/Canada, US law goes so far that it defines the hemp plant by being cannabis with up to 0.3% THC. Practices like that and its legal status, allowed for low THC strains to be grown in countries where growing higher THC cannabis strains is still illegal.
