I’ve covered a lot of cartoon content in the past but I’ve never really had a look at Anime. This genre of animated series has massively increased in popularity in the western world over the years. Now Netflix has a vast variety of anime shows, there are more large followings for shows like Attack on Titan, and people are starting to get back into classic anime shows as well as western anime shows from childhood. I believe that smoking weed with cartoons is one thing, but smoking weed with anime is a completely different creature. Anime has a tendency to be a little more intense, violent, difficult to follow or emotional. So I think we are going to need some pretty different strains before we sit down to watch our favourite anime shows. I’ll even list one or two shows and films that I recommend for watching while high.
Strawberry Cough
This one is perfect for your more uplifting anime shows and films. Things that are a bit more classic and cartoony like Pokemon, Yugioh, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z. Also maybe for some of the lighter Studio Ghibli films like Kiki’s Delivery Service or My Neighbour Totoro. Any of these should put you in a pretty fluffy mood already, well obviously some DBZ is pretty intense but still. Strawberry Cough is an uplifting and euphoric strain that is regularly recommended to those suffering from anxiety, stress or depression. The strain has the unmistakable flavour and scent of strawberry, funnily enough. It grows thick lateral branches with large, impressive pine cone shaped buds. When these buds grow to term they take on a beautifully dark red and purple colouration. It definitely doesn’t produce the most amazing yield but the quality more than makes up for it. The best part about this strain is the medium THC level. It usually sits between 10 – 15% which makes it great for keeping up with slightly confusing plots. Strawberry Cough has a flowering time of 9 weeks and will grow well indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.
Tangie
This strain is known for its increased creativity which makes it great for anime watching. It brightens the brain in an almost meditative way so will help you focus on some of the trickier shows or films. I think this strain is great for Death Note, Attack on Titan, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time or something that’s just extremely beautiful as well as fun like Spirited Away. Tangie has a wide variety of medical uses such as depression, epilepsy, nausea, pain, loss of appetite, Multiple Sclerosis, migraines, glaucoma and arthritis. This strain is Sativa dominant and has a pretty high THC level. This means it’s pretty strong at up to 23%, if you’re not an experienced smoker you may not want to go overboard. It has a deliciously fruity scent and flavour that makes it a joy to smoke. It has a flowering time of 9 weeks and will grow indoors or outdoors.
Green Crack
This strain is for the really confusing and complicated shows or films. It is also great for anyone who suffers from ADHD and finds anime difficult to follow in the first place. Especially if you are watching subtitled rather than dubbed. Green Crack is great for shows like Bleach, One Piece, Tokyo Ghoul, or films like Akira, Ghost in the Shell or Fullmetal Alchemist. Green Crack is extremely cerebral and stimulating which makes it fantastic for maintaining focus. It has a strong citrusy flavour and scent that matches the jazzed up perky feeling in your brain. Once again it has good medicinal properties and is perfect for anyone who needs a daytime painkiller that allows them to focus on their work or chores. It has a THC level of around 20% so it’s pretty powerful. Unsurprisingly it is Sativa dominant and it is a high yielder that produces large loads of dense, resin covered buds. Green Crack has a flowering time of 58 – 65 days and can be grown indoors or outdoors.
LSD
This strain is great for the trippier anime shows and films, which is quite a lot of them. I recommend this strain for Psycho Mob 100, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Pom Poko, or The Cat Returns to just mention just a few. This strain is psychedelic, euphoric, powerful and cerebral. This means it is great for enhancing the amazing animation, beautiful character design and awesome stories of these strange and surreal anime shows and films. The flavour and scent are musky and earthy which is delightfully relaxing despite the energetic nature of the strain. LSD is extremely powerful and the average THC level sits at around 25%. This means it is a strain that people need to be careful with, even if they are experienced. LSD is also an award winner and took the cup in 2008. Despite its power this is a great strain for beginner growers because it’s resistant to mould and disease. It has a flowering time of 60 – 65 days and can be grown indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.
Laughing Buddha
Let’s quickly finish with something for our funny anime shows and films. Laughing Buddha is a giggly fun time of a strain that will go well with Great Teacher Onizuka, Detroit Metal City, Lupin The Third: The Castle of Cagliostro or Space Dandy. This strain tastes like a mix of exotic fruits and has a THC level of 22% so it can be a little strong. Laughing Buddha is also a cup winner and took 3rd prize at the 2003 Cannabis Cup. It is a combination of Thai and Jamaican strains so it comes from some pretty impressive genetics. The plant itself is extremely pretty to look at and the buds are covered in thick layers of glittering resin. It is a tall and heavily branched plant so it needs plenty of space to grow. This is also a pretty easy strain for beginners. It has a flowering time of 70 – 75 days and can be grown indoors or in a greenhouse.
