2000s Web Cartoons To Watch High Part 2

Welcome back to 2000s web cartoons to watch high where we look back on all the best web series from the Millennial teen years. During this time Newgrounds and Youtube were hotbeds of weird and wonderful cartoons that were basically designed for watching while stoned. Last time we went through a good few of the classics from Salad Fingers to Llamas With Hats. This time we are going to cover a few more very popular shows of the era as well as a couple you may not yet be familiar with. So without further ado let’s have a little look at some of the weird and wonderful cartoons that are perfect for smoking up to.

Dick Figures

This was a show from slightly later in the 2000s and the first episode came out in 2010. It was a cartoon that followed two friends, stick figures one of whom was red and the other blue. Once was relatively reasonable and normal, the other was a bit of a wild card. Certainly a pretty basic and popular premise but I remember this being one of my favourite cartoons. I mean sure looking back there were some crumbs of fatphobia, sexism and maybe a hint of racism in the form of a Japanese racoon but one can’t have everything. This was still a time when men were making these cartoons to try and out offend each other so you won’t find many that don’t have a good whack of cancelable content. If you want to just watch something stupid while ripped out of your face and have a chuckle then I recommend Dick Figures.

Zero Punctuation

Ok technically these videos are more game reviews than anything but they are animated and they are a lot of fun. The series started in 2007 and features video game journalist and comedy writer Ben Croshaw. This guy is absolutely hilarious and the little animations make it all the better. This is a great one for all the game nerds who love reviews but don’t want something that’s too serious. The reviews are informative and honestly I’ve never found him to be wrong about a game. He was even relatively positive about Bayonetta which is one of my favourites but was looked down on at the time. Anyway, if you want to get stoned and watch something animated but you love video games then this is the easy choice.

Charlie The Unicorn

This is another absolute classic that I’m sure a few of you were horrified I left out of part 1. Charlie The Unicorn was one of the most iconic cartoons on the internet and is still regularly quoted by Millenials to this day. This flash animated cartoon first surfaced in 2005. It is about a relatively surly unicorn called Charlie who is being constantly harassed by two slightly more stereotypical unicorns with high voices and a love of all things rainbow and candy. Well, that’s definitely what it seems like at the start. If you have learned anything by now it should be that these cartoons are going to lead you one way before dragging you down a gorey alleyway and beating you with a large stick. I’m sure many of us remember the adventure to Candy Mountain that Charlie gets bullied into. The episode ends in a musical number, the Candy Mountain cave, and Charlie having his kidney harvested. There were only a few episodes of this show but it is great for a real nostalgia trip while enjoying another kind of trip. I rewatched it for this article and I have to say it definitely holds up.

Simon’s Cat

Next let’s have something a little nicer, the 2008 flash animation known as Simon’s Cat. This show gained a lot of traction and is still extremely popular to this day. It starts by showing this lovely animation of a cat doing cat stuff. The first short is literally the cat trying to wake Simon up for breakfast as we know cats love to do at ridiculous times in the morning. But as all of these shows to it goes a little unexpected when the cat whacks its owner with a baseball bat then pretends to be sound asleep at the end of the bed. It’s not violent, there’s not blood or gore, and it’s not offensive but it is perfect if you just want something calming to watch while you’re high. Each cartoon is only a few minutes long and has no dialogue or colour which I love. This show is cute, funny and very relatable for cat owners.

Dragon Ball Z Abridged

I remember when I was 16 my boyfriend at the time showed me all of Dragon Ball Z. Afterwards I found out that it was partly so that he could show me Dragon Ball Z Abridged. To be fair, I do remember it being one of my favourite things to watch on the internet. It is great for watching stoned because it is full episodes and genuinely extremely funny. I still have umpteen quotes stuck in my head and if I meet someone who hasn’t seen it I’ll definitely show them. Whether or not they have seen the original material. It came out in 2008 and was created by the group Team Four Star. These fellas were also the various voices of the characters. The group was made up of Nick Landis, Martin Piers Billany and Scott Frerichs. I still think the writing is hilarious and the dubbing extremely well done. If you are or aren’t a fan of Dragon Ball Z I really think you will enjoy this either way, especially stoned. If you still have a group of friends from your teens there is a chance you watched this show. It’s perfect for a high get together to really soak in some of the nostalgia.

That’s all I have space for, apologies if I left out anything that was particularly formative for any of you, but I’ve covered all of my nostalgia bases. Happy high viewing!
