Weed Themed Christmas Songs

I know we are all sick to the back teeth of Christmas music, and likely have been since the 1st of November. If I hear Mariah Carrey warble about wanting me for Christmas one more time I shan’t be held responsible for my actions. So I thought I would have a scour of the internet for a few less traditional Christmas songs that might appeal to my demographic, and luckily I found quite a few. I’m not sure what I expected to find or why I thought it might be tricky to dig up cannabis Christmas carols. Immediately I found a wealth of relevant material, some by well known artists and some by less famous musicians. After going through I discovered that many of these homages to a stoner Christmas were a good deal more fun to listen to than the same songs that have been funneled into our eardrums by fuzzy shopping centre speakers or loudly quacking radio djs. Anyway, enough of my little rant, let’s have a look at some of these fantastic weed themed Christmas songs.

Oh Chronic Tree by Afroman

I first heard of Afroman through the song Get Up which my ex used as his alarm clock. I hadn’t really heard many of his other songs before listening to Oh Chronic Tree but I would still definitely say I’m a budding fan. Get it? Budding? Anyway, Afroman songs tend to be a little bit strange, a little bit trippy and a whole lot of fun. The music never takes itself too seriously which is ideal for a Christmas anthem. Obviously, the song is a parody of Oh Christmas Tree, one of the older Christmas classics that we still hear every year without fail sung by enormous groups of children with piercingly high voices. The lyrics to Afroman’s version are honestly great. The song is funny, clever and just really enjoyable especially if you are already a fan of Afroman.

Twas The Night Before Christmas by Snoop Dog

This one may be a little more well known than the previous song. This was definitely a stoner Christmas song that I had heard a few times before, but still it’s just a lot of fun. If you are putting together a green Christmas party playlist then this song needs to be on it. Once again this song does not take itself too seriously. He does actually rhyme dick with Saint Nick at one point which is good. Essential the song is all about getting completely fucked up for Christmas which I think is something we can all aspire to. Especially with the new variant potentially messing up a lot of our Christmas plans. Like a lot of the songs in this list Twas The Night Before Christmas is a funny piss take that will have you either chuckling or straight up laughing, depending on how high you already are.

Rudolph The Red Eyed Reindeer by Blaze of Grass

Here we have another parody that comes from the album Dreaming of a Green Christmas. I think you basically know what to expect at this stage. It’s the classic Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, a song about a reindeer that gets excessively bullied by the ableist reindeer until Santa exploits him so no one finds out he messed up one of the most basic aspects of sleigh maintenance. So basically it’s that song but with the words altered to be a lot more 420 friendly. The story changes somewhat and in this song I believe Rudolph gets Santa high and I have no idea whether or not that saves Christmas but really at this point who cares. A great option for the playlist because it’s generally just very silly.

Let’s Get Blazed For The Holidaze by Chief Greenbud

Chief Greenbud actually has a few Christmas songs including this one and A Christmas Without Weed. This is an oddly touching song all about getting high for Christmas. I know that’s probably quite obvious when you think about it but it’s less of a direct parody and more of just a slightly funny song about weed and Santa. It has a country feel to it which is a little different to some of the other options. I like this one as a background to sitting down and prepping a joint for a group of friends. It is just a guy singing over an acoustic guitar which also gives it a slightly less professional feel, but in a nice way. I would say if you like a little country acoustic cannabis business a la Willie Nelson then Chief Greenbud is your guy.

A Willie Nelson Christmas Carol by Willie Nelson

Speaking of Willie Nelson we should really put his actual Christmas song on here. He performed the song on the Colbert Christmas Special. It starts like so many Christmas songs do, going on about some men with presents for the star baby. However, as it goes into the bit that usually talks about Jesus he swaps it up for talking about a weed plant. It’s a really nice and chill song about getting stoned and being friends with everyone. Genuinely a more touching and enjoyable Christmas song than most that are out there. A great one for winding down at the end of the evening, maybe having a smoke before bed.

A Willie Nice Christmas by Kacey Musgraves

I’m doing two Willie Nelson songs and you literally can’t stop me. This one was performed by Kacey Musgraves featuring Willie Nelson so technically it’s not two of his songs and is a little more upbeat than the previous one. It’s a little tongue in cheek, if pressed you could definitely say it wasn’t about weed but it very clearly is. This song has a cutesy island vibe to it but manages to still be festive without being a cliche. I also like that the song brings in all the different beliefs and celebrations that happen around the same time and essentially saying no matter what you believe, whoever you are, just get stoned and have a Willie nice Christmas. “May we all get higher than the angel on the top of the tree.”

Funny you should mention ‘erbal related songs because I recently changed the lyrics to “It’s raining men”. Not a Chrimbo related one, but thar ya go.
Have a great, safe festive time!
