Some things just go together like strawberries and cream or chocolate and peanut butter, two of those things are weed and coffee. There is no feeling quite like sitting on a balcony in the sun enjoying a fresh coffee and a joint. Since they are so perfect together it makes perfect sense to combine them. This is also better for those of us who prefer not to smoke. Putting cannabis in coffee can be a creative and exciting adventure. There are a few different ways to do it, and of course, we can do it with any type of coffee. It is also the coming together of caffeine and THC in one chemically unique place. So let’s have a look at all the fun and varied ways we can bring these natural besties even closer.

Why Bother Making Cannabis Coffee?

When we drink coffee we get a hit of uplifting energy that perks up the brain and gets the endorphins flowing. When we smoke weed we take on whatever effects that strain is known for, most simply a relaxing down or a euphoric high. Put the two together and we get an uplifting and creative buzz that sets the brain up for a productive and focused day. This is ideal for the days when we just don’t want to get up. It also works well for a busy day full of things that need to be done, or if we just want the energy to get out of the house and go for a nice walk or go to see some friends.

Of course, different strains will have different effects so we need to be careful which strains we choose.

Perfect Coffee Strains

Sour Diesel

This is a perfect Sativa strain that will provide that creative, functional high we mentioned earlier when mixed with coffee. It also has a strong scent and flavour which could be very interesting depending on the coffee used. The Sour Diesel effect is clear-headed and powerful with a focus and mood boost that is ideal for first thing in the morning.

Indica Cream

This strain is not only creamy, sweet and delicious so will make a very tasty coffee, but it is powerfully relaxing. When mixed with caffeine relaxing strains like this Indica will provide a chill yet uplifting high when mixed with coffee. This is perfect for Sunday morning with a pastry, just watching TV or doing a crossword. This is great for anyone who suffers from jitters when they drink caffeine.

Thai Chi

This is a perfectly balanced strain that is ideal for those who want calm yet creative and uplifting with their coffee. This particular strain is extremely positive and uplifting with a lovely chatty quality. This is a great one if you are making coffee for a group of friends.

How To Make Cannabis Coffee

First, we will need our ingredients which for a regular coffee are:

  • At least half a gram of weed
  • 2 tablespoons of butter or coconut oil
  • 700 ml of water
  • Coffee of your choosing

First, we need to grind up the weed as fine as we possibly can. I would suggest using a grinder for this as we want a nice, smooth, even grind.

Boil the water in a pan and then add your butter or coconut oil, depending on your preferences. Let that melt into the water and then keep the water at a simmer. Add your ground up weed and continue to simmer for around 40 minutes letting it all get nice and mixed together. Make sure the water keeps moving so the weed doesn’t get stuck or burnt.

Once the cannabis has given up everything it has to offer to the water we strain out the little leftover bits and pieces.

Now, all we need to do is put our chosen coffee into a french press and add our cannabis water. Leave it to percolate just like we would normally and then plunge it. Freshly ground coffee is a must in my humble opinion, this should be a real treat of a coffee. The only possible issue can be the water splitting from the coconut oil or butter so it might be an idea to give it a blend. This is ideal if we are making a cappuccino or latte, something a little sassier than a plain black coffee.

Depending on the flavour of the cannabis it might be a good idea to throw in some nutmeg or cinnamon to balance the coffee taste-wise.

Can you buy cannabis coffee?

The short answer there is yes, there are companies where we can purchase pre-made cannabis coffee. This may be safer for anyone who isn’t sure about their dosages or isn’t used to imbuing things with cannabis. Most companies will provide different strengths of THC in the coffee which means newer users can be sure they won’t overdo it.

BrewBudz

This company sells cannabis-infused coffee pods that work in almost any pod machine. They are easy to use and come in a variety of strengths without the odour or taste of cannabis. They also sell teas which is ideal for the caffeine-sensitive amongst us.

Cannabis Bakehouse

The Cannabis Bakehouse has a variety of products but they sell both cannabis coffee beans and coffee capsules. These are perfect for anyone who just wants to have a constant stash of cannabis coffee in the cupboard.

Jane’s Brew Coffees

This cannabis-infused coffee from House of Jane is long-lasting and fast-acting without any cannabis smell or aftertaste. It also comes in a variety of dosages, perfect for all types of coffee drinkers. The pods contain all-natural ingredients and will last up to 3 – 5 hours.

Hemp Coffee UK

This coffee company that is based in the UK mix their coffee with hemp flowers. Since it is a UK based company this is a CBD blend that is ideal for relaxation and pain relief. The coffee is tasty and provides a relaxing but uplifting effect. It has a very small percentage of THC and should not be psychoactive.

  1. Super article Gary , I love coffee & cannabis, this sounds like a treat of a first breakfast drink ~ at the weekend.
No decarboxilation needed before grinding said weed? Is the boiling of the ingredients long enough to do it?
    Thank you.

  2. Great article Gary, thanks , I will try it using my CBD infused coffee beans.
No decarb needed for the weed?

I’ve been known to make easy “hot pot chocolate” using a big tin of carnation milk.
Add 1 tablespoon coconut oil & enough decarbed cannabis (3grams or more) to your tinned milk.
Simmer steadily over a double boiler for 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally, make sure to keep boiling water topped up in pan below, then strain.
~ At this point you have your own delicious honey coloured cannabis creamer, keeps in fridge for a week. Add it to any drinks, your cereal, dessert , whatever you fancy!
☆To make your own hot pot chocolate or magical Mayan ceremonial chocolate.
With cannabis milk on a warm heat , whisk in chocolate powder (natural if possible) , add some cream of cacao (healthy , tasty theobrema oil surrounds the chocolate nuts) , honey for sweetner, a shake of chilli pepper is optional. Whisk well , pour a cup & relax.
Just like Cannabis & coffee. Chocolate & chilli are a perfect combination.
Have a great day everyone! In-Joy your infused drinks.🙂
