For some of us, the goal of smoking isn’t completely recreational. Occasionally it’s nice to experience the relaxing, comforting and other medicinal properties of weed without risking anxiety or paranoia. Of course, this is especially true for medicinal users who want to smoke during the day but still be able to function. THC low strains serve a multitude of purposes, for a wide variety of people. Some of us don’t react as well to THC as others, and low THC options can offer a comfortable and controlled high with all of the pleasant parts of being stoned. THC can cause issues for those who are using cannabis to lessen the side effects of mental illnesses. Those who suffer from anxiety or depression can find a lot of relief in cannabis as long as the THC isn’t there threatening to make things worse. Finally, medicinal users who require effective pain relief or an anti-inflammatory but don’t want the psychotropic side of the drug can find comfort in a low THC strain.

Pennywise

This specialised medicinal strain is the result of years of special research and testing. She was created for users who want plenty of CBD and almost no THC. Her CBD levels can get as high as 13.3% while her THC levels stay at around 7%. This strain is perfect for anyone who wants something calm, collected and comfortable where they don’t have to worry about their tolerance. Its primary function is as a medicinal strain, due to its phenomenal medicinal properties. She has been used to reduce the side effects of difficult to control illnesses such as epilepsy, PTSD, rheumatoid arthritis, alcoholism, diabetes, infections, and a variety of neurological disorders. This strain has a few phenotypes that are largely similar in scent, taste and effect but will often differ in colour and bud structure. Pennywise has a flowering time of 60 – 67 days and can be grown indoors or outdoors.

CBD Mango Haze

This is a deliciously fruity strain whose THC level doesn’t get higher than 6 – 8% while the CBD sits at 5% and up. The flavour is a mix of tropical fruit and peppery spice that tingles the tongue and makes the mouth water. This strain is often recommended to those who haven’t had much success with other low THC or medicinal strains. CBD Mango Haze is a Sativa so it’s a perfect day time strain and won’t have aggressively soporific side effects. This strain is peppy and uplifting, perfect for sitting in the sun and letting the stress just melt away. She is an ideal strain for anyone who is struggling with depression, anxiety and other mental health issues. The plants will respond extremely well to pruning and topping, usually producing yields of around 450 – 600 g/m2. It has a flowering time of 9 – 10 weeks and will grow well indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.

Easy Bud

This strain is perfect for those who want to smoke recreationally but have a low tolerance or worry about using high THC strains. She usually produces a THC level of just 12% with a very low level of CBD. This means she produces a physical and relaxing high that is manageable and enjoyable. Smokers don’t need to worry about aggressive highs full of anxiety, hunger and discomfort waiting for the last joint to wear off. For a casual afternoon with a film and a few snacks, this is a perfect strain. Easy Bud is Indica dominant, excellent for anxious smokers, and produces small, compact plants. The scent is reminiscent of skunk and the flavour is deliciously sweet. She has a short flowering time of just 8 – 9 weeks and can be grown indoors or outdoors.

Harlequin CBD

This is a very popular strain for those who suffer from severe anxiety disorders. It is calming, relaxing and soothing, allowing the brain to switch off and chill. Her THC level usually sits not higher than 6.5% and can get down to 4.5% after she is decarboxylated. Of course, this makes her a generally fantastic medicinal strain. As I mentioned she is used to treat anxiety but also insomnia, PTSD, arthritis, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, and severe pain. She tastes of musk and sweet mango with a hint of spice. She is the perfect nighttime strain, giving smokers a genuinely sleepy comfortable feeling without an overly heavy soporific effect. She is a great medicinal strain but also perfect for anyone who is just struggling with sleep due to stress. She has a flowering time of just 56 – 63 days and can be grown indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.

Cannatonic

Cannatonic is an award-winning medicinal strain that boasts a 1:1 THC to CBD ratio. The THC sits at around 6 – 7% with a CBD level of 5% and up. She won both the 3rd Prize Sativa Cup HTCC 2008 and the 2013 HTCC – CBD Flowers Prize. Cannatonic is a balance of Indica and Sativa that produces a comfortable effect that reduces muscle spasms. Medicinally it can also be used by those suffering from HIV/AIDS, nausea, pain and inflammation. Though it is primarily used for these issues Cannatonic has almost endless medicinal uses. It has a balanced effect so isn’t too sleepy or too peppy. It just reduces the stresses of medicinal issues allowing users to go about their day or evening unaffected. Cannatonic is also a dream for growers as it is easy to cultivate and produces large yields. Usually, this strain will produce yields of around 500g/m2 when it is grown indoors. These yields can be raised slightly by using hydroponic growing methods. The outdoor yield will be slightly lower but not significantly, this also depends on where in the world it is being grown. She will usually finish flowering in 7 – 8 weeks but benefits from a little extra maturing time. Most growers would give her around 9 – 10 weeks for the best possible results. She will grow well indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.
