Feminised seeds have been immensely popular since they were first released by the Dutch Passion Seed Company. They make life much easier for growers who have no interest in breeding. They accomplish this by only growing into female plants. For growers who do not wish to breed their own crops male plants are worse than useless. They are a waste of time, space and money which could be better spent on the female plants. Since the males can harm the females in the crop they need to be removed before the flowering process. This means that half of the seeds that the grower paid for are being wasted. 80% of strains which have been feminised have shown marked levels of improvement in both their quality and their stability. For experienced breeders feminised seeds are still an option. If properly stressed the female plant emits a pollen very similar to that of the male plant. This pollen can then be used to fertilise another female plant. The resulting seeds will only contain female genetic material and thus will only grow into female plants.
